When Should You Share Your Faith?

Recently a friend said he did not know very much about the Bible and so he was reluctant to share his faith. Many learners of Jesus share that same concern. To answer that question from the Scriptures, we should consider the account of the Samaritan woman at the well in Sychar as recorded in John 4:28-30.

So the woman left her waterpot, and went into the city and said to the men, “Come, see a man who told me all the things that I have done; this is not the Christ, is it?” They went out of the city, and were coming to Him.

John 4: 28-30

Jesus explained to the woman how she could receive the water of eternal life as a free gift from Jesus. She immediately believed and returned to her city of Sychar.  How long did the woman wait to share her faith? She did not delay in leaving the well and going straight back to the city of Sychar to spread the good news from Jesus the Messiah. Immediately she wanted everyone to hear about Jesus. She had received the well of water springing up to eternal life. The woman did not waste any time in immediately going back to the people in city and telling them about the wonderful things Jesus had done for her. The city then went out to meet Jesus and hear His message of salvation by faith.

In our lives, we should be comfortable sharing our faith in Jesus every day. We do not need to wait until we have studied the Bible. The woman was highly motivated to spread the good news of finding Jesus the Messiah to her entire city. She did not have a sterling reputation in the city, but she still wanted everyone there to hear her message of faith in Jesus as Messiah. We should remember the Samaritan woman at the well and be like her in sharing our faith in Jesus, even if we have only believed for a few minutes.
